A commemorative plaque for holder of the Red Star Order Yuri Kharitonchik who served in the Afghanistan war, was installed on the building of the secondary school in the village of Kleiniki, Brest District. The ceremony to unveil the plaque was attended by the family members, students and villagers on 16 February. On 2 April 1986 Senior Lieutenant Yuri Kharitonchik provided the engineering support to the reconnaissance units near the town of Charikar, Afghanistan. When on this mission he discovered and demined seven anti-tank mines. In an exchange of fire with the enemy he was fatally wounded.
