Young people of today are capable of changing the life of the country for the better and making a significant contribution to the development of the native land. The statement was made by Mogilev Oblast Governor Vladimir Domanevsky at the solemn regional event dedicated to Belarus Constitution Day, BelTA has learned.

The event took place at premises of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee. Thirty talented young Belarusians from all over Mogilev Oblast, including exemplary students, public life activists, winners of academic excellence competitions and various contests, were invited to attend the event.

The governor noted: “We live on this land and rarely think about the fact that we live according to one key document. All the other regulatory acts, which are adopted to handle various spheres of life, are always tied to our constitution. The constitution did not come to be in our independent country without a reason. It is a document, which stems from the history of development of the statehood, from the social and economic way of development of the country, from the political will, which is embraced by the nation and determines ways of development of our statehood.”

The head of the oblast administration drew attention to one of the fundamental points of the document: from the day a new citizen is born, the state undertakes the responsibility for his or her safe life in the country and abroad. Getting a passport is a major event in the life of every person. It begins the self-dependent life of a citizen, who bears responsibility for his or her actions. “It is symbolic that you are issued your passports in the Year of Native Land. To some degree the fact comes with the responsibility that after getting your passports, you should more actively work in your own position to make a significant contribution to the development of the territory, the populated locality where you live,” noted Vladimir Domanevsky.

The governor went on saying that Belarus has a lot to be proud of. “Over a short period of state development our country was recognized as a full-value member of the global community. Today we talk at the highest level about our views on the global economy and politics. We position the country in the international scene as a peace-loving nation, which would like to shape relations with everyone on terms of equality but without detriment to its own interests. When young Belarusians, for instance, Olympic athletes, prove that we can do a lot indeed, that in our development we can compete with major nations, it invokes respect and bolsters the country's standing,” he stressed.

The Mogilev Oblast governor congratulated participants of the event on Belarus Constitution Day and presented passports to the best school students in a solemn setting.
