MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – The unity is a guarantee of security for every CIS member state, Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev said during the meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS Member States on 19 May, BelTA has learned.
“The unity of the CIS countries is a guarantee of security not only of the whole Commonwealth of Independent States but every CIS member state. My working experience shows: when we are together, we can deal with any task,” said Sergei Lebedev.
In his words, taking into account changes in geography and activity of terrorist organizations the CIS plans to introduce amendments to the concept of cooperation against terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism.
According to Sergei Lebedev, in order to improve the legal framework of cooperation the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS Member States drafted an agreement on sharing information in the fight against terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism, as well as their financing. “The draft agreement is currently undergoing interstate coordination. Then the document will be submitted to the CIS Heads of Government Council,” the Executive Secretary added.
Keeping in mind the positive results of the CIS cooperation program against terrorism for 2014-2016, the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center has drafted the similar program for 2017-2019. The document will include an expanded range of counterterrorist tasks, and also people involved in the implementation of various practical events.
