Belarusians celebrated the ancient ‘Pull the Kolyada Up the Oak' rite in the village of Noviny, Berezina district on 21 January.
This folk ritual wraps up the Orthodox Christmas celebrations in Belarus. A Kolyada (wheel) is pulled up an oak tree to bring in a good harvest, luck and happiness for the entire year. The rite has been recognized an intangible historical and cultural value of Belarus and is on the state list of historical and cultural values.
