Zayats: Refocus of Vitebsk Oblast's agriculture should ensure financial stability of enterprises

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – The refocus of agriculture in Vitebsk Oblast should ensure the financial stability of enterprises, Belarus' Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats told reporters after the meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to discuss the measures taken to finish the harvest campaing in the country and the proposals to improve the cultivated land structure in Vitebsk Oblast on 23 October, BelTA has learned.

Leonid Zayats said that the head of state gave an instruction to thoroughly analyze the peculiarities of agribusiness development in Vitebsk Oblast.

“It is essential to improve the cultivated land structure to ensure the specialization of this region and enable the procurement of the necessary amount of fodder, grain and other crops to meet the demand of the cattle breeding industry in Vitebsk Oblast,” the minister said. “Taking into account the climatic and soil conditions, we would like to introduce rational agricultural techniques to ensure the financial stability of enterprises.”

Plans have been made to increase the production of milk to 1 million tonnes, beef to 83,000 tonnes, pork to 82,000 tonnes. “These figures will guarantee the full-capacity operation of enterprises in Vitebsk Oblast and will play a key role in the financial stability of agricultural and industrial enterprises,” the minister said.

Taking into account these plans, promising industries will get bank loans and foreign investments. For example, the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee signed an agreement on the implementation of the project to build dairy farms using direct investments with Chinese DRex Food Group Co., Ltd. in summer.

As for the improvement of the cultivated land structure, Leonid Zayats said that this work is already in progress. “We have determined the structure of cultivated land and coordinated it with the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Agrarians realize the importance of developing such industries which can help them earn money,” he said.

Alexander Lukashenko urged to use the most serious approaches to the reorganization of Vitebsk Oblast's agricultural industry. All the plans should be brought to life as soon as possible. The president gave an instruction to do major work in 2018.
