Working group to come up with ways to use up surplus electricity in Belarus

MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – A working group will be established in Belarus to evaluate possible ways of using the electricity the nuclear power plant will generate, BelTA learned from Chairman of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus Viktor Nazarenko during the Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum on 11 October.

The official said that the emerging working group will be established upon instructions of the prime minister and will include representatives of the Energy Ministry, the Energy Effectiveness Department of the State Standardization Committee, research and expert institutions. Viktor Nazarenko said they expect the group to come up with precise and justified proposals about ways of using this energy. A representative of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is expected to head the working group.

Viktor Nazarenko said he believes that it is time for the manufacturing sector and agriculture to put forth concrete proposals on ways of using the electricity the nuclear power plant will generate. “Every branch of the national economy should make its tangible contribution and say how much electricity from the nuclear power plant it will use. Everyone should contribute to it, including science,” said the official.
