Workgroups of Belarusian central government agencies to examine problems in regions

MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) – Workgroups of the Economy Ministry, the Labor and Social Protection Ministry, the Architecture and Construction Ministry will travel to the country's regions to examine development problems, the press service of the Belarusian Economy Ministry told BelTA.

The workgroups will be led by deputy economy ministers. The workgroups will work in the regions on 27 March — 11 April to study development problems and problems of working out tactical and strategic measures for invigorating economic growth. Representatives of the Labor and Social Protection Ministry, the Architecture and Construction Ministry, the Office of the Council of Ministers, the National Agency of Investment and Privatization (NAIP), and the Economy Research Institute of the Economy Ministry will be invited to contribute to their work.

The relevant government instructions have been issued to the leadership of the three ministries. The work has been initiated by the Economy Ministry. Before a series of trips to the regions Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky outlined key areas the workgroups will have to focus on: investments, jobs, salary, and civil engineering. The official underlined that the Economy Ministry had done all the necessary groundwork. “It is necessary to go to the regions in order to detect internal factors and reasons preventing the development of economy in the regions. It is necessary to work out tactical and strategic measures to invigorate economic growth,” stressed the Economy Minister.

Participants of the workgroups are expected to meet with top officials and executives of municipal government agencies, enterprises, and private companies. They will also visit a number of enterprises. The Economy Minister pointed out that auditing them was not the idea. Instead it is necessary to discuss problems and come up with solutions together. “Roundtable sessions, a dialogue, joint discussions must be the style of work in these groups. We should give people an opportunity to speak up. We should understand, feel the problems that the regions will raise. We should brainstorm together in order to come up with solutions. I would like you to pay close attention to work in the regions and how they view their development taking into account competitive advantages, what prevents investors from working in specific areas, what prevents creating jobs with high salaries, and what the central government has to do to remove these hindrances,” concluded the Economy Minister.

As a result of the effort the central government is supposed to get proposals concerning general aspects of development of the national economy, salaries and jobs, investments, entrepreneurship, civil engineering, financial rehabilitation of the countryside, and innovations.
