MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – The World Bank is set to grant Belarus about $100 million to upgrade universities, World Bank Country Manager for Belarus Alex Kremer told the media on 28 November, BelTA has learned.
“We hope that the upgrade project will be submitted for scrutiny to our council in the spring or summer next year. The project provides for granting about $100 million to upgrade universities with a special focus on science, engineering disciplines, physics and chemistry,” Alex Kremer said.
In his words, the project is designed to help Belarus develop learning aids in compliance with the standards and requirements of the Bologna system and to help the country establish an independent quality management system based on the principles and values of the Bologna Process.
The project will be implemented by the Education Ministry of Belarus, Alex Kremer said.
Since Belarus joined the World Bank in 1992, the organization has granted Belarus $1.9 billion worth of loans. In addition to that, grant financing to the amount of $31 million has been provided to finance various programs. As of today, the World Bank's investment portfolio in Belarus comprises nine projects to the tune of $942.7 million.
