Vitebsk Oblast may set up dairy venture in Russia's Astrakhan

VITEBSK, 20 April (BelTA) - Vitebsk Oblast is interested in setting up a joint venture to process powdered milk in Russia's Astrakhan, Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev told the media on 19 April, BelTA has learned.

“A delegation of Vitebsk Oblast headed by the governor has recently traveled to Volgograd Oblast and Astrakhan Oblast of Russia on a business visit. “There is a demand for our products there. I am talking about meat and dairy products, light industry goods, machines. Interregional agreements have been concluded. We will develop cooperation in culture, tourism, and sport. By and large, we outlined our cooperation in all areas and mapped out several major projects,” the governor said.

Nikolai Sherstnev elaborated on two projects. “Astrakhan has built a dairy factory which has not gone online yet due to the lack of raw materials. An agreement was reached to send our specialists-technologists there. They will assess the situation and we will decide on what to do next. Maybe we will set up a joint venture. This is interesting for us because we can process our powdered milk there,” Nikolai Sherstnev said.

The second project can be implemented together with the Volgograd company Volma. “This company uses dolomite in the production of plasterboard. In view of the common interests, we have agreed to discuss investments in the project to upgrade our Dolomit company. Preliminary arrangement has been reached. We are expecting a Russian delegation in May,” the governor said.

Today Nikolai Sherstnev visited the VIPO engineering company. This is a rapidly growing private company which sells about 98% of its output internationally. The company was granted financial support from the budget (from the Innovation Fund). The governor visited the production facilities, including the newly opened shop which has not yet reached the full capacity, talked to the head of the company to discuss the problems hindering the development of the company. Nikolai Sherstnev promised support and assistance to the company in resolving the current issues.
