Transaviaexport: Public air carrier status helps protect the country's interests

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - The status of the public air carrier helps protect the interests of the country, project manager of OAO Transaviaexport Airlines Artem Sikorsky said at the plenary discussion during the Belarusian Transport Week, BelTA has learned.

"The company was founded in 1992. 99% of its shares belong to the state. This in no way hinders the development of the company. It is thanks to this status of the state carrier that we can protect the interests of the country in the best way," said Artem Sikorsky.

The company's fleet included mainly IL-76s until recently. Over the years, the aircraft has proved very efficient and shown it can fly into airports with poor infrastructure. Transaviaexport often delivers heavy and oversized cargo, including to Africa countries where there are problems with the delivery of the goods by land routes. The IL-76 can carry up to 50 tonnes over a distance of almost 4,000km.

The company has established itself as an operator transporting humanitarian supplies. "Our planes do air drops, helping to deliver the cargoes to distant places in Africa. The plane going down as low as 50m drops 36 tonnes of cargo,” Artem Sikorsky said".

"Many tourists making flights from Cape Town to Novolazarevskaya station in Antarctica have taken advantage of our aircraft. Among them were Prince Harry, Prince Albert of Monaco and other famous people,” Artem Sikorsky noted.

In July 2015 the company began regular operation of the Boeing 747 and thus expanded the geography of flights. The plane carried cargo from China to Belarus, to South and North America. The cost of delivery has decreased: If IL-76 freight costs are $5 -7 per 1kg, Boeing costs are at $1.8.

The air company uses special containers to deliver the deer, elephants, camels to customers. The interest in these exotic goods is high in the regions of the Middle East where the services of the Belarusian carrier are in high demand.

Transaviaexport Airlines provides cargo transport services and also aircraft repair and maintenance services. The company operates one Boeing 747 and 13 IL-76s.
