Trade via Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange up 25% in January-July 2017

MINSK, 4 August (BelTA) – In January-July 2017 the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) facilitated a total of Br1.7 billion worth of deals, 26% up from the same period last year, BelTA learned from BUCE spokesman Roman Yaniv.

Deals with metal products accounted for the bulk of the BUCE trade turnover. Their volume totaled Br631 million. Over 70% of the sum, or 466 million, was earned from domestic supplies of ferrous metals and goods made of them.

Timber products demonstrated a 34% growth to Br595 million due to a large increase in sales of round timber (4.4 million cubic meters of round timber worth Br233 million). The growth made up 35% in the cost terms.

Agricultural products posted an upward trend as well. The value of deals with agricultural products reached Br345 million, 36% up from the same period in 2016. Oilcakes of oleiferous crops secured almost 40% of the earnings. “A considerable increase in the demand for milk powder and whey from Belarusian consumers should also be mentioned. Milk powder sales rose 12 times to Br6 million. Whey sales went up 29 times to Br1 million,” Roman Yaniv said.

In the section of industrial goods and consumer goods, Belarusian and foreign commercial entities concluded 21,768 deals worth Br146 million, 57% up from 2016. The most popular consumer goods included building materials, mechanisms and equipment, and products of the light industry.

As of 1 August, there were 17,994 companies from 59 countries accredited with the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange.
