Thailand shows interest in capabilities of Vitebsk airport

VITEBSK, 27 June (BelTA) – Thailand got interested in the capabilities of the Vitebsk airport, Chairman of Vitebsk Oblast Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev told media while commenting on a meeting between Thailand's parliamentary delegation and senior officials of Vitebsk Oblast and the city of Vitebsk on 26 June, BelTA has learned.

Among the issues hampering the development of ties between Belarus and Thailand is the absence of direct air service, Vladimir Terentyev said. “One of the goals of the visit of the Thai delegation was to study the logistics. First and foremost they were interested in the capabilities of the Vitebsk airport,” Vladimir Terentyev noted.

“Thailand is also interested in Vitebsk alcoholic beverages. The first trial batch was already sent to Thailand. The partners were satisfied with the quality and price. So let us hope that we will have great progress in this area,” he noted.

Among the goods that may be of interest for Thailand, Vladimir Terentyev called linen products, copper and timber products. I think that this visit will serve as a basis for the development of economic relations between our region and Thailand,” Vladimir Terentyev noted.

Thailand's parliamentary delegation is in Belarus on a visit on 25-29 June. On 26 June the guests laid flowers to the monument on Victory Square in Vitebsk to mark the anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. The parliamentary delegation was also taken on a tour around the city and also visited Vitebsk's distillery Pridvinye, with which there plans to establish cooperation.
