MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry continues talks on the arrival of low-cost airlines to the country's oblast airports, Belarus' Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Avramenko told the media at the House of Representatives on 10 October, BelTA has learned.
“Our goal is to boost regional airports. We are working together with low-cost airlines on possible flights to regional airports. Everything depends on how the carriers' economy will develop. They are the ones who make the final decision on the launch of this or that flight,” said Aleksei Avramenko.
The minister also confirmed that Wizz Air will start flying from Minsk to Budapest in spring 2020. Negotiations on the arrival to the regional airports are underway not only with this low-cost airline, but also with others, he said.
According to Aleksei Avramenko, the main issue in the negotiations is the conditions under which a low-cost airline can come to any of the airports. “Ticket prices are set by airlines, while services [tariffs for services upon arrival in Belarus] are a matter of negotiations in each case. All low-cost airlines want preferences,” the minister said.
