MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – Belarus will use Swedish turbines to integrate the nuclear power plant into the national power grid. The appropriate Belarusian-Swedish contract was signed in Finspang, Sweden on 27 November, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Sweden.
The document was concluded between the Vitebsk regional electric company Vitebskenergo and Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery. The Swedish company will supply gas turbines for Lukoml State District Power Plant and Novopolotsk Cogeneration Plant.
The event was attended by top executives of Vitebskenergo and the power plants, representatives of the Belarusian Embassy in Sweden and the Embassy of Sweden in Belarus.
The contract was signed following an open tender held in Belarus to supply gas turbines.
The Swedish side has also confirmed the willingness to attract the necessary financing for the contract. “This is the first time in the trade and economic relations between Belarus and Sweden that we have such terms of export financing of such large transactions to purchase investment goods,” the embassy noted.
Building energy storage capacities at the Vitebsk energy facilities is part of a set of measures to integrate the Belarusian nuclear power plant into the national power grid of the Republic of Belarus.
Belarusian energy companies already have considerable experience of mutually beneficial cooperation with Siemens, which is one of the largest suppliers of energy equipment. In November of this year, Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery also won a tender to supply equipment for the construction of energy storage capacities at Minsk CHP plant No. 5.
