Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Mill starts exporting bleached sulphate pulp

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Mill has shipped a maiden batch of bleached sulphate pulp abroad, BelTA learned from the pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom.

The first batch of new products (220 tonnes) was shipped to the Ekman company, the global leader in sales and marketing in forestry industry. The pulp was put in shipping containers that will be delivered to the Port of Klaipeda by road and then shipped further to China.

Since the Svetlogorsk sulfate bleached pulp plant became operational in July, the enterprise has already manufactured over 6,000 tonnes of products. The capacity utilization now makes up over 60%. Local processing companies ordered about 1,000 tonnes of pulp, the rest is sold abroad.

When the plant reaches its designed capacity, it will produce 400,000 tonnes of pulp annually, of which 300,000 will be slated for export.

The press service noted that pulp production is among the most profitable businesses in woodworking. The added value of pulp producers is considerably higher than that of other sectors of the woodworking industry. The export of 1 tonne of pulp generates 5 times more foreign currency, than the export of wood, from which pulp is made.
