Substandard Russian oil breaks expensive equipment at Belarusian oil refinery

MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – Expensive equipment at Mozyr Oil Refinery has been broken due to having to process substandard Russian oil, the company's representatives told BelTA.

For the last few days Mozyr Oil Refinery had to deal with the Urals oil mixture with a high content of chlorinated organics with high corrosiveness. “The poor quality of the raw materials we have to deal with has had an effect on the equipment's performance,” the company's representatives noted.

Thus, skips were detected in heat-exchange tubes of the air cooler KhK-105 in the S-100 section of LK6U No.2 plant. The company's specialists have dismantled this piece of equipment and are busy repairing it.

A commission involving representatives of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim, the Physical-Technical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Mozyr branch of the Gomel Oblast Office of the Safe Industrial Practices Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry, and Mozyr Oil Refinery have examined the equipment and detected symptoms of corrosion damage of the heat-exchange pipes.

According to Mozyr Oil Refinery Director General Vitaly Pavlov, the company's specialists acted fast in this situation. Closer attention is now being paid to the state of the equipment in order to promptly respond to malfunctions. More reagents able to reduce corrosion damage are now being fed into the system.

“Despite the problems caused by the corrosion damage to the equipment Mozyr Oil Refinery still makes a full range of commercial products that match international quality standards,” representatives of the company stressed.
