South-east region of Mogilev Oblast urged to tap into existing opportunities

KOSTYUKOVICHI, 20 January (BelTA) – The south-east region of Mogilev Oblast need to make a better use of the existing potential, Belarus' Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky told the media as he is making a working trip to Kostyukovichi District.

“You need to use the innovations that the state offers more actively. Unfortunately, the resources that have been earmarked for the development of the south-east region in 2017 are not being utilized in full. It is primarily due to the fact that projects and business plans have been poorly developed,” the minister believes.

In his view, the projects must be elaborated in great detail to show that the business models they suggest are efficient and hold great prospects. He assured that the government will provide support and that the preferences defined in Decree No. 235 dated 8 June 2015 on the social and economic development of the south-east region of Mogilev Oblast will remain in force.

“The local authorities and business community must be more proactive in implementing their initiatives. We see that some traction has ben gained. But still, the development of the south-east region has been very slow and does not meet the expectations of the government. The government support will not last indefinitely. Therefore all stakeholders need to decide, as soon as possible, on the ways to use the available resources in order to give a boost to the economic development of this region in all areas,” he said.
