Slovakia ready to invest in power industry, waste management in Belarus

GRODNO, 17 August (BelTA) - Slovakia is ready to invest in the power industry and waste management in Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus Jozef Migas said at the meeting with Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Kravtsov on 17 August, BelTA has learned.

According to the Ambassador, the Slovak business shows interest in cooperation with Belarus in many areas. Energy is one of them. Mutually beneficial cooperation can be established both in the exchange of experience and training of specialists for power plants and also in the construction of new facilities.

“The matter pertains to the construction of hydroelectric power stations on the Neman and the Western Dvina. We are ready to invest in these projects,” said Jozef Migas. Thus, the investment in the construction of a 20mW hydro power plant will make up about €130 million. Besides, business from Slovakia is ready to invest in the area of waste management, including separate waste collection, its sorting and processing. Grodno Oblast suggested taking part in a project to produce RDF fuel in Grodno.

In agriculture Slovaks are searching for a partner in Belarus to produce pop wines. The agrarian practices of Grodno Oblast are also of high interest.

Vladimir Kravtsov and Jozef Migas talked over possible cooperation between the countries and their regions in the tourism sector. The parties also expressed intention to intensify cooperation in education and culture. The twinning relations between Belarus' Grodno and Slovakia's Zilina will help promote this interaction.

A delegation from Zilina led by Mayor Igor Choma is in Grodno on a visit. The guests have already got familiar with the education and tourism potential of the city and learned about the country's visa-free rules. An exhibition of Zilina photographers was opened in the Lutheran Protestant Church in Grodno on 17 August. The church will also host a concert of organ music.
