Share of eco-friendly packaging at 50% in Belarus by 2035

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – The share of eco-friendly packaging used by Belarusian manufacturers is projected to reach 30-50% by 2035, Deputy Chairperson of the Belarusian state food industry concern Belgospishcheprom Iya Malkina said as she took part in a panel discussion on new environmental standards in Belarus held as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, BelTA has learned.

“A full transition to biologically neutral, environmentally friendly packaging is not on our agenda. We have analyzed the capabilities of our economic sectors. The share of eco-friendly packaging is expected to vary from 30% to 50% in various sectors by 2035,” Iya Malkina said.

She noted that Belarus has already developed the national action plan on transition to eco-friendly packaging. The plan draws not only on Belarusian documents (such as the action plan on green economy and the national sustainable development strategy till 2030), but also on expertise of international advisors, primarily the EU advisors.

I have studied this matter and I know for sure that not all European countries can boast significant achievements in this field, Iya Malkina noted. “Belarus is not lagging much behind,” she added.
