Shanghai asked to help modernize city infrastructure in Minsk

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – Minsk is interested in partnership with Chinese investors with a view to modernizing the city infrastructure. Minsk is particularly interested in Shanghai's experience in this area. The statement was made by Minsk Vice Mayor Viktor Laptev as he met with a delegation of the Counselors' Office of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government on 16 October, BelTA has learned.

Viktor Laptev said that Minsk is strongly interested in Shanghai's experience of managing the city infrastructure, in the Smart City system, the transport system, beautification, and the handling of solid municipal waste. “We actively seek partners for modernizing the urban environment. We would be glad to find Chinese investors with innovative technologies, who could take part in our joint work,” said the Minsk vice mayor.

A delegation of the Counselors' Office of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government is in Minsk on a visit. Jiang Ping, Director of the Counselors' Office, is the head of the delegation. He remarked that the program of meetings had been prompted by the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative. “We are interested in your experience in the manufacturing sector, metal processing, mechanical engineering. Belarusian companies demonstrate sufficiently advanced practices in this regard,” he said. “We are also pleased to hear your evaluation of our accomplishments in city infrastructure development. But Shanghai has gaps, too. This is why we are ready to analyze the drawbacks together and work out common solutions for our cities.”

Jiang Ping also noted that he and all his colleagues, who had already been to Minsk, are impressed by the scale of the Belarusian capital and the administration system. With his experience of working in a city administration, he said he can imagine what it takes to organize the smooth work of all spheres in a city with a population of over 1 million people.

The China International Import Expo is scheduled to take place in Shanghai in November 2018. The sides agreed to exchange business contacts of the people responsible for specific cooperation avenues ahead of the expo. Representatives of the Chinese side received a full list of investment proposals from Minsk.
