Rusy: Belarus hopes for more investment, trade with Israel

MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – Belarus would like to see more investments and bigger trade with Israel, Belarus' Vice Premier Mikhail Rusy said during a meeting of the Belarus-Israel joint committee on trade and economic cooperation in Minsk on 13 March, BelTA has learned.

In 2016, the trade between Belarus and Israel amounted to $93 million. Mikhail Rusy thinks that the two countries should tap into the possibilities to expand the bilateral cooperation in trade and economy. “Belarus possesses enough resources to increase supplies of food and other high-quality goods that are popular in Israel,” Mikhail Rusy added. Moreover, Belarus is ready to advance the jointly manufactured goods to the markets of third countries.

Belarus successfully implements projects involving Israeli investments and technologies. The two countries have a significant experience of cooperation in agriculture and construction. “Belarus works consistently to create the most enabling environment both for the Belarusian and foreign business,” Mikhail Rusy noted. “I believe, this will serve as an impetus for businessmen from Belarus and Israel to explore new lines of cooperation and new markets together.”

The establishment of a free trade zone between Israel and the EEU will also contribute to the Belarus-Israel cooperation. “It will impact not only trade but also investment cooperation between the countries,” Mikhail Rusy believes.

Moreover, Belarus is ready to develop cooperation in tourism, public health, and culture.

Minister of Immigrant Absorption of Israel Sofa Landver reminded the parties of the forthcoming events to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Belarus-Israel diplomatic relations. “Our countries share close ties and history. I hope this year will give a new impetus to our mutually beneficial cooperation, which is very important for the Israeli government,” Sofa Landver said.
