MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) – Belarus would like Vnesheconombank to lend more resources for the sake of getting the future Belarusian nuclear power plant integrated into the national power grid. The idea was discussed during the meeting of First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vasily Matyushevsky and President of the Russian state corporation Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs (Vnesheconombank) Sergei Gorkov on 8 December, BelTA has learned.
The First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus said: “We would be grateful if you consider allocating more funds for integrating the nuclear power plant into the power grid. It seems to me it would be important for both sides.”
Sergei Gorkov remarked that the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is an important joint project for Belarus and Russia. “The nuclear power plant is a fine example of integration cooperation and is also one of the most important power engineering projects in Belarus,” said the Vnesheconombank President.
The Vnesheconombank President reminded that the bank had lent $500 million to Belarus several years before. “So far $248 million has been spent. About $250 million will have to be spent in 2017 and consequent years. We have confirmed our commitments and will honor them despite the fact that we are a bit short on liquid funds but these are legally binding commitments, which are stipulated by the relevant intergovernmental agreement among other documents,” he stated.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW).
