Russian Agriculture Ministry to help overcome difficulties in cooperation with Belarus

MOSCOW, 7 June (BelTA) – Russian Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev is ready to help overcome difficulties in cooperation with Belarus. The information was released by the ministry's press service after negotiations with a Belarusian delegation led by Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats in Moscow on 7 June, BelTA has learned.

According to the source, the Russian agriculture minister underlined the partnership nature of international cooperation of both countries, including on the milk market. Dmitry Patrushev expressed readiness to closely look into emerging difficulties in trade and help resolve them.

Dmitry Patrushev said: “Cooperation with Belarus has been traditionally very intensive and constructive. We are united by common economic space. It contributes to the increased interest in mutual trade in agricultural products. But there are a number of matters, which require closer attention.”

Dmitry Patrushev and Leonid Zayats gave instructions to set up a working group, clarify the current situation, and consider the removal of the temporary restrictions on Belarusian dairy export to Russia.

According to the source, the Belarusian delegation also requested additional consultations with the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor) for the sake of discussing emerging issues at the technical level.

Participants of the meeting also discussed the integration of the Belarusian system for tracking agricultural animals and products with the Russian one. Progress in implementing the action plan on lifting mutual restrictions on trade in animal products in 2018 was also mentioned. Belarusian-Russian work to set up animal stock breeding centers for raising pedigree animals in order to substitute imports in the Union State of Belarus and Russia was also reviewed.
