Revised decree on entrepreneurship promotion in Belarus ready soon

MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) – The revised decree on the promotion of entrepreneurship in Belarus will be submitted to the head of state by the end of November, Deputy Economy Minister Dmitry Matusevich told BelTA ahead of the awards ceremony of the Entrepreneur of the Year national contest 17 November.

“The two documents are now under consideration in the government. The Economy Ministry forwarded their revised versions to the Council of Ministers on 17 November. I think they will be submitted to the head of state by the end of month,” the deputy minister said. He clarified that he referred to a draft decree on licensing and a decree on entrepreneurship promotion, the key elements of the whole package of documents.

According to Dmitry Matusevich, the Economy Ministry had several instructions to harmonize and finalize these documents. “We did not make any serious amendments. We just made minor changes to some things,” he added.

The official stressed that, once adopted, the package of documents will improve doing business conditions in Belarus.

The Entrepreneur of the Year national contest was first held in 2016. In fact, it substituted the competition Best Entrepreneur which took place from 1997 to 2013, in a completely new format. Changes were made to the number and names of nominations, the procedure of the contest, the system of evaluation and stimulation of prize winners. They were meant to increase the importance and popular appeal of the event, make its procedures more open and transparent.

The 2017 edition of the Entrepreneur of the Year contest comprised four nominations: Successful Start, Stable Success, Effective Business in Manufacturing, and Effective Business in Service Industry.
