Plans to scale up innovative petrochemical cluster in Belarusian Novopolotsk

VITEBSK, 29 November (BelTA) – The number of participants of the Novopolotsk-based innovative petrochemical industry cluster will be nearly doubled in 2020, representatives of the Polotsk State University told BelTA.

At present the cluster involves the Novopolotsk city administration, the Polotsk State University, the oil refinery OAO Naftan, the civil engineering company Construction and Installation Center No.16 in Novopolotsk, the wholesale trade company OOO Interservis, and the Novopolotsk Center for Entrepreneurship and Real Estate. The number of participants of the cluster will be raised to 11 in 2020.

Chinese partners from the city of Weihai, with which Novopolotsk has been twinned, are also interested in cooperation. A Chinese delegation is expected to visit Novopolotsk in spring 2020. There are plans to establish interaction within the framework of the petrochemical cluster then. In particular, Chinese partners show interest in innovative R&D products of Novopolotsk scientists as they work to create new kinds of petrochemical goods and improve qualities of available fuel. Apart from that, a company from Czechia, which is getting ready to penetrate the Belarusian market, is a potential partner of the cluster.

Due to the larger number of participants the cluster will need better mechanisms for their interaction, specialists noted. There are plans to set up an association in 2020 to coordinate joint actions inside the cluster. Among other things the association will have to come up with proposals on improving the legislation that governs the work of innovative infrastructure entities. The association will also take care of organizing events to promote effective interaction between the participants. It will form the portfolio of joint orders, promote the cluster's image, and improve personnel support in the cluster's work.

The Novopolotsk-based innovative petrochemical industry cluster was established in October 2017 by the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee, the Polotsk State University, and OAO Naftan.
