Plans for e-procurement platform at Belarus' Universal Commodity Exchange

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – An e-procurement platform can be set up at the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE), BUCE spokesperson Roman Yaniv told BelTA commenting on the reporting meeting held by the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART).

Attending the meeting were representatives of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange. The meeting was kicked off by Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Vladimir Koltovich. In his opinion, over more than 11 years of successful operation the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange has repeatedly proved the efficiency and importance of the exchange mechanism for the Belarusian economy. Creating favorable conditions for the promotion of healthy competition, the commodity exchange helps MART fulfill its functions as an instrument of macroeconomic regulation. This year there are plans to consider the possibility of setting up a small e-procurement platform at the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange, which will make a real contribution to the promotion of healthy competition.

Taking stock of the BUCE performance in 2016, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the BUCE Anatoly Zaretsky noted that the exchange turnover increased by 26% to Br2.53 billion. The number of accredited companies exceeded 17,000. The BUCE held the biggest ever tender in timber on the domestic market: 2.47 million cubic meters to the total tune of Br154.05 million. Coal sales soared 20 times through transactions of cement organizations. Besides, the BUCE held the first ever tender on grain exports, and also launched a reverse auction principle in the acquisition of extraction cake and supplementary feeds. The principle saved some Br11 million for domestic companies.

In the BUCE foreign economic activity the major efforts are focused on the development of the institute of nonresident brokers. The commodity exchange has so far accredited six foreign brokers from Russia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and the Czech Republic, who have brought up to the commodity exchange more than 100 new companies from abroad.

In 2016 the BUCE launched electronic trading in property and proprietary rights. Last year the commodity exchange sold 23 items to the total amount of Br1.2 million.
