Output of innovative products in Belarus' science parks up over 200% in last 5 years

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – The output of innovative products in Belarus' science parks grew more than twofold in the last five years, BelTA learned from Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Customs and Technology Committee.

“Special attention is paid to developing science parks which serve as platforms for innovative production. In the last five years, the number of jobs in science parks went up from 600 to 1,500, the output of innovative products grew more than twofold,” Alexander Shumilin noted.

Four science parks were set up in 2017 at Belarusian State University, the Belarusian State Academy of Agriculture in Gorki, Yanka Kupala State University in Grodno, and at the business incubator Law and Order in Vitebsk. Two technology transfer centers were established at the National Institute of Vocational Education and Yanka Kupala State University. “The State Science and Technology Committee and the oblast executive committees have started forming regional innovative platforms in major district centers. Science park have already become operational in Novopolotsk and Pinsk. The work is underway to set up another three ones in Orsha, Borisov, and Bobruisk,” the official stated.

A well-developed network of related entities has been formed in Belarus. It covers every region of the country and comprises 24 units, including 14 science parks, 9 technology transfer centers, and the Belarusian Innovation Fund.
