Opinion: Belarus has the potential for the fourth industrial revolution

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Belarus has the potential for the fourth industrial revolution and digital transformation of the economy, Wladimir Augustinski, Head of the Representative Office of German Economy in Belarus, told the media on 23 May, BelTA has learned.

Wladimir Augustinski noted that Belarus and Germany celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. He added that the countries have been strengthening their political dialogue. “Our task is to boost the relations in economy, give them a new impetus, and enhance them with new content. The German strategic initiative Industrie 4.0 and aspects of ‘smart' economy could be used by the two countries to find new points of growth, new potential for the development of economic cooperation,” the expert believes.

Wladimir Augustinski emphasized that Germany remains an important economic and investment partner for Belarus. Still, it is necessary to continue to look for new opportunities for cooperation.

For instance, Wladimir Augustinski believes that given Belarus' potential, the country is likely to be interested in knowledge and solutions relating to the fourth industrial revolution. “We see that the cooperation in this field is growing stronger. The country so far remains at the stage of the third industrial revolution. The catch-up effect and accelerated development have allowed for adopting knowledge and solutions in this field, as well as for building the industrial policy by linking up to the value added chain,” the expert added.

Wladimir Augustinski is attending the first German-Belarusian forum Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industrie 4.0): Digital Transformation of the Economy on 23 May. The forum has brought together representatives of Belarusian organizations and enterprises, business associations, legislative and executive authorities, diplomatic corps, and companies with foreign capital operating in Belarus.
