Number of retail outlets in Belarus 7.7% up in 2017

MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) – In 2017 the number of retail outlets in Belarus increased by 7.7% from 2016 to about 107,000, representatives of the Belarusian Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry told BelTA.

According to the retail registry, the number of retail outlets operating in Belarus increased by 7,613 (7.7%) in 2017 to reach 106,811 as of 1 January 2018.

The shopping space of the retail outlets in Belarus increased by 365,100m2 (6.3%) to 6,130,400m2.

The number of shops in Belarus increased by 6.9% to reach 45,353 as of 1 January 2018.

The number of shopping centers went up by 581 (5.4%). Meanwhile, the number of marketplaces went down by four to total 390 at the beginning of the year.

The retail registry now includes 16,175 online shops, 17.2% up from early 2017. Corporations own 49.2% of them while self-employed businessmen own 50.8%.

As of 1 January 2018 there were 14,896 public catering outlets (except for seasonal cafes (summer cafes), delicatessen departments in shops, and procurement departments), or 613 outlets (4.3%) up from early 2017.
