No fixed prices for Russian natural gas for Belarus

SAINT PETERSBURG, 16 June (BelTA) – Russia will not offer fixed prices for natural gas to Belarus. Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev made the statement after the session of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Saint Petersburg on 16 June, BelTA has learned.

Dmitry Medvedev stated: “Nobody ever offers fixed prices [for natural gas]. Besides, these prices cannot be set in stone in conditions of the free market. But naturally we should agree pricing principles. We will work towards that, discussing all the aspects including the currency of these payments.”

In his words, the Belarusian and Russian governments as well as the relevant ministries and agencies should keep an eye on the problems that emerge in the energy industry and come up with solutions for them. This kind of interaction is beneficial for the comprehensive and multifaceted development of Russian-Belarusian-cooperation, summed up Dmitry Medvedev.
