New program on flax may be drafted in Belarus-Russia Union State

PRIVOLZHSK, 22 May (BelTA) – We may develop a new Union State program for the flax industry, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota said this to reporters today after visiting Yakovlevsky Linen Mill in Privolzhsk, Ivanovo Oblast of Russia, BelTA has learned.

“There was one attempt to draw up the Union State flax industry program. Some say that there is already such a program, but this is not true. We have no such program. We have not been able to draw it up for various reasons. We may revisit this topic and draft a program. But it must be formulated properly and be in sync with the capabilities that we have,” Grigory Rapota noted.

According to him, if flax manufacturers in Russia or Belarus feel the need to somehow coordinate their actions in respect of export or sale, there are appropriate mechanisms that can be used to provide assistance with this.

“Belarus and Russia has always maintained cooperation in the flax industry. It has gone ups and downs. But this has been due not to the lack of interest on the part of Russia and Belarus but due to the trends on this market,” Grigory Rapota said.

In turn, Pavel Karzhanov, the director general of OOO TDL Textile which includes Yakovlevsky Linen Mill, remarked that Russian and Belarusian manufacturers of linen products have a common problem with raw materials. “We have discussed the ways to solve this problem for both sides in a way to provide enough raw materials to every manufacturer to produce

the amount of products that can be sold on the market,” he said. Pavel Karzhanov is convinced that Belarusian and Russian manufacturers of linen products should join efforts to withstand competition on the global market.
