Mogilev Oblast to host international conference on woodworking on 14-15 September

MOGILEV, 21 August (BelTA) – An international science and practice conference on woodworking and the human impact on forest resources will take place in Mogilev Oblast on 14-15 September, representatives of the administration of the free economic zone (FEZ) Mogilev told BelTA.

The conference is expected to gather representatives of Belarusian and foreign woodworking companies, producers of furniture, wood boards, and other products from nine countries: Belarus, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Turkey, Slovakia, Germany, and China. They are expected to discuss topical aspects of the development of woodworking and furniture production. Attention will be drawn to certification and technical barriers that impede export, the use of new wooden materials, wise forest exploitation, and other things.

Bilateral negotiations with representatives of woodworking companies, meetings with representatives of the relevant government agencies and exporters of timber are part of the program. Visits to Mogilev Oblast's top woodworking companies will be arranged. A presentation of the engineering and transport infrastructure of free investment platforms in FEZ Mogilev will take place. Participants of the conference will be able to get familiar with an exhibition of accomplishments of the Gorki-based Belarusian State Agricultural Academy. Scientific and practical experience in the sphere of modern approaches to environmental protection and the rational use of natural resources will be shared.

Mogilev Oblast has not been chosen to host the event by accident. The region offers promising sites for woodworking business development since large reserves of various timber varieties can be found here. The free economic zone Mogilev also offers highly qualified manpower, advantages of a special legal regime, and a well-developed engineering and transport infrastructure. The factors enable optimal conditions for woodworking industry development.

The companies that operate as part of FEZ Mogilev's emerging woodworking cluster invested about €430 million in the development of the industry between 2010 and 1 June 2017. In the period they turned out over Br960 million worth of merchandise and exported ready-made products to the tune of over $550 million. About 2,000 jobs were created.

The science and practice conference on woodworking and the human impact on forest resources is organized by FEZ Mogilev and the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy.
