Minsk Oblast, Russia's Vologda Oblast to set up big transport, logistics company

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – Minsk Oblast and Russia's Vologda Oblast have plans to set up a big transport and logistics company, Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov told BelTA after the plenary meeting of the third Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions.

“Today we have signed a cooperation agreement with Minsk Oblast. Now our task is to use this agreement to develop specific projects and programs beneficial to both sides. We propose a number of machine-building projects, and also have plans to set up a big transport and logistics company,” Oleg Kuvshinnikov said.

He added that the company will operate MAZ haulage trucks. “We expect that soon there will be an end to the rule of Volvo and Scania trucks on the Belarusian and Russian roads, because the company we set up will handle a vast amount of freight between Belarus and Russia,” the Vologda Oblast Governor explained.

Besides, there are plans to build a large engineering cluster around the plant assembling Belarus tractors in Cherepovets. “We have agreed to set up the cluster by 2018. The output of the Cherepovets-based enterprise will reach 3,000 tractors,” Oleg Kuvshinnikov emphasized.

“Our task is not only to increase the supplies of products to Belarus, but also to supply Belarusian goods. The idea of the Union State envisages the establishment of such integration platforms. I am confident that the Forum of Regions will give a fresh impetus to the development of our mutually beneficial cooperation,” Oleg Kuvshinnikov said.
