Minsk Oblast intends to bolster ties with China's Guangdong province

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) - Minsk Oblast intends to expand cooperation with the Chinese province of Guangdong, Sergei Zheleznyak, the chairman of the economy committee of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, said at a seminar on trade and economic cooperation between Guangdong Province and Minsk Oblast, BelTA has learned.

“Cooperation between Minsk Oblast and Guangdong Province is based on the agreement on friendly relations between the regions as from 27 November 2012. Annually, our delegations meet and discuss joint projects in tourism, culture and education. Minsk Oblast is open to contacts with Guangdong in other areas too,” Sergei Zheleznyak said.

Speaking about the interaction between Minsk oblast and China in general, he stressed that trade has been growing most dynamically. “Minsk Oblast is the largest supplier of potash fertilizers to China. In turn, the Chinese side is a promising investor in the region's economy: direct investmentd from China in 2017 amounted to about $60 million,” Sergei Zheleznyak noted.

In 2017 the trade between Minsk Oblast and China exceeded $1 billion.
