MART: No reasons for not meeting inflation targets in 2018

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – There are no reasons to fail to meet the inflation target of 6% in 2018, Belarus' Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Deputy Minister Andrei Kartun said in an interview with the STV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We have set a goal for 2018: the inflation of 6% by the end of the year. Today we can see that there are not any fundamental macroeconomic reasons not to meet the target,” said Andrei Kartun.

Speaking about the new anti-inflation program, the deputy minister explained that its fundamental difference and the main goal is to secure low inflation rates (at the level of 4%) in the midterm. The previous program was focused on achieving single-digit inflation.

“The first program was aimed at reducing inflation. We fulfilled it. Today we should not simply reduce it. We must keep it low, create conditions. The third block of the program will make emphasis on competition development or maybe we will continue reducing inflation further, taking necessary measures for it,” the deputy minister said.
