Market players considering ways to drop roaming charges in Belarus-Russia union

MINSK, 12 June (BelTA) – Ways to drop roaming charges in the Union State of Belarus and Russia are being worked out together with market players. State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota made the statement after meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 12 June, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “There is a natural contradiction: the producer is eager to sell any product in exchange for as much money as possible while the consumer is intent on paying as less as possible. The existing market must not be dismantled in one go without taking into account interests of all sides. It is understandable that it has to be done, the ministries understand it, and nobody dismisses the idea out of hand. They have taken a kind of a timeout in order to look for options together with the market players.”

In his words, the matter is constantly monitored. Progress reports will be presented at sessions of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and the Supreme State Council.
