Major Chinese company ready to buy food from Gomel Oblast

GOMEL, 19 February (BelTA) – The Chinese retail company Nanjing Su Cang Liu International Trade based in Nanjing is ready to buy food from Gomel Oblast. The company's General Manager Zhang Jin made the statement as he met with Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik on 19 February, BelTA has learned.

A delegation of the Chinese company spent a week getting familiar with the operation of meat, dairy, and food industry enterprises in Gomel Oblast. The impression was very good. “We made sure that you make high-quality products. We are fully satisfied with the price options, too. Now we would like to work with the partners on delivery options as well as all the technical aspects of customs and phytosanitary control. We hope that the first batch of food will be shipped as early as March,” said Zhang Jin.

In turn, the Gomel Oblast Governor noted that the region can export up to 50% of the food it makes while technological standards of the processing enterprises allow making high-quality products. “I am convinced that if delivery logistics is smooth and keeps up with the shelf life of the merchandise, our products will be competitive on the Chinese market,” stressed Vladimir Dvornik.

The representative of the Chinese company said that for now no Belarusian food is sold in Jiangsu Province. Nevertheless, Zhang Jin was convinced that the project will be successful and mutually beneficial. “We would like to buy here as much dairy, meat, confectionery products as possible as well as other foods,” he stressed.

The visit of the Chinese company's delegation continued the contacts that began on the basis of the agreements reached by the Belarus president and the China president in Minsk in 2015. In August 2015 Gomel Oblast welcomed a delegation of 14 people led by the foreign investments subdivision director of the commerce department of the Jiangsu Province administration. In December 2015 a delegation of representatives of the business circles of Gomel Oblast went on a reciprocal visit. During the visit the sides discussed prospects of stepping up and diversifying the export of Gomel Oblast enterprises to China, ways to attract Chinese investors to the free economic zone Gomel-Raton, and the implementation of promising investment projects in the oblast.
