Latvian court rules €66.8m in favor of Belarusian oil transport company

MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – The Latgale Regional Court has ruled in favor of collecting €66.8 million from the Russian-Latvian company LatRosTrans payable to OAO Polotsktransneft Druzhba in a case involving line fill crude oil, BelTA has learned.

The court has ruled in favor of collecting €66,861,649. The sum includes the cost of the oil (€66.744 million), a state duty of €66,000, and legal expenses, noted Polotsktransneft Druzhba representatives.

The legal controversy began in 2010 when LatRosTrans Company decided to drain oil from an oil pipeline although Polotsktransneft Druzhba had documents proving the Belarusian company owned this oil. The Belarusian company sought legal redress after that. The oil contained in parts of the Polotsk-Ventspils and Polotsk-Birzai-Mazeikiai pipelines, which are located in Latvia and are now owned by LatRosTrans Company, was the matter of debate.

The litigation process went all the way to the Supreme Court of Latvia, which ruled to forward the case to a lower authority for re-examination in December 2016.
