Kobyakov suggests drafting Belarus-Uzbekistan cooperation roadmap

MINSK, 12 June (BelTA) – Belarus invites Uzbekistan to elaborate a cooperation roadmap for 2019-2020, Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said as he met with Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nigmatilla Yuldoshev on 12 June, BelTA has learned.

“In order to make the bilateral cooperation more systemic and comprehensive, we suggest drafting an action plan – a roadmap – to intensify contacts between our countries in 2019-2020. This program can be very instrumental for implementing the Belarus-Uzbekistan agreement on social and economic cooperation up until 2028 that is to be signed during the official visit of the head of state to Uzbekistan. We should complete certain preliminary work and present viable projects, first of all, in the economic sector,” Andrei Kobyakov said.

Apart from trade and joint projects in the manufacturing industry, the two countries have great prospects to expand cooperation in information technology. “We believe that we have everything in place to implement IT projects in Uzbekistan. We are ready to offer projects in railroad and automobile passenger transportation,” the premier noted.

According to Andrei Kobyakov, the two countries could ramp up bilateral contacts in education and culture. “We are ready to train specialists for Uzbekistan's economic sector at our educational institutions. In April 2018 Days of Belarusian Culture and Cinema were held in Uzbekistan and they were a success. We will be glad to welcome a delegation of Uzbekistan's performers in Belarus, as it is envisaged in our arrangements,” Andrei Kobyakov said.

He called the visit of Uzbekistan's parliamentary delegation to Belarus an important milestone for the bilateral relations. “We expect this visit to give an added impetus to bilateral contacts across all the areas,” Andrei Kobyakov concluded.
