Knowledge economy viewed as resource for bolstering Belarus' industrial potential

GRODNO, 22 June (BelTA) – The knowledge economy will help bolster the scientific, economic, and industrial potential of the country, Biology PhD Anton Glazev, Deputy Vice Rector for Scientific Research at Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, told BelTA on 22 June as he commented on President Alexander Lukashenko's speech at the 5th Belarusian People's Congress.

“Belarus has scarce mineral resources, and knowledge economy will help us overcome all barriers and increase our scientific, industrial and economic potential. This, in turn, will increase the income of the population, which is one of the strategic tasks for the next five years,” Anton Glazev noted.

He emphasized that the knowledge economy is based, first of all, on the education process, scientific research and introduction of scientific solutions into the production process. “The program for Belarus' social and economic development provides for setting up enterprises of the fifth or sixth innovation wave, which has to do with the knowledge economy. All solutions are directly introduced into the production process ensuring its stable development. This is the direction we should be heading in,” Anton Glazev said.

He added that there are many examples of cooperation between science and industry. Solutions developed by the research staff of the Grodno university are regularly used at different enterprises. IT solutions, such as software for production plants, are in a great demand.
