Kizima: Belt and Road will have an increasing impact on the Belarusian economy

MINSK, 15 May (BelTA – Xinhua) – The Chinese Belt and Road initiative will have an increasing impact on the economy, trade and employment in Belarus, Sergei Kizima, PhD in Politics, Head of the International Relations Department at the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of Belarus, said in an interview with the Xinhua news agency.

“Since the 1990s Belarus has been advocating the closest contacts with the Chinese economy. Having no access to the oceans, the Belarusian economy suffers from the lack of quick and cheap trade communications. “Through the Belt and Road initiative Belarus will get access to many new channels for the development of trade. The country will be able to export and import cheaper spare parts and products, which will increase investors' interest and will create new jobs in various sectors of the economy,” Sergei Kizima noted.

In his words, Belarus' ties with the Chinese economy will become closer in the near future. This will result in the latest innovations coming from China to modernize the Belarusian economy.

According to Sergei Kizima, the Belt and Road initiative will also give Belarus' neighbors a reason to see the country as an important logistics hub. In his words, more container and passenger trains, transit tourists will be going via Belarus.
