Joint production of import-substituting goods to boost Belarus-St. Petersburg cooperation

ST. PETERSBURG, 29 January (BelTA) – Joint production of import-substituting goods can add an additional impetus to cooperation between Belarus and St. Petersburg, Belarus Premier Andrei Kobyakov said at the eighth meeting of the Business Cooperation Council on 29 January, BelTA informs.

“We have enough cooperation areas. St. Petersburg's Avangard has been actively coopering with the Belarusian Planar in the development of micro engineering systems, which is one of the current sci-tech trends. Here, we have proposals to shift from local projects where new scientific products are produced to the efforts of finding application for them in the Union State within the development of complex systems connected to the intellectual control of such big systems as utility services and all the things related to safe road traffic. It will be a way to ease the dependence on the import of component parts. It is a good import-substituting project. We believe such projects will add a new impetus to our cooperation,” said Andrei Kobyakov.

Another promising project is a joint production of automatic molding machines which is being set up by the Baranovichi machine-tool plant and Plastic Processing Plant named after Komsomolskaya Pravda. “We have launched cooperation, an extensive one. It is just an exchange of component parts, some products. These are joint design efforts, joint development, research,” the Belarusian head of government said.

He stressed that Belarus and St. Petersburg are working on areas that can significantly add to the scientific, technological, trade and economic potential of the two countries.
