SOCHI, 1 December (BelTA) – Iran is interested in expanding political and economic cooperation with Belaru, Iran's First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri said as he met with Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov on 1 December, BelTA informs.
“We want to intensify our bilateral cooperation in politics, economy, and other dimensions,” Eshaq Jahangiri noted. Iran also hopes that the Belarus president will pay a visit to the country in the near future.
Belarus regards Iran as the most important partner in the region, Andrei Kobyakov stressed. “We have an interest in further development of effective trade and economic ties,” the prime minister emphasized.
The sides discussed ways to boost industrial cooperation and interaction in the oil and banking sectors. They also reviewed the progress in the implementation of Iran's investment projects in Belarus.
Belarus-Iran trade reached $75.7 million in January-September 2017; Belarus' export totaled $40 million.
Andrei Kobyakov is in Sochi on a working visit. He is scheduled to take part in a session of the Heads of Government Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in which Belarus has an observer status. The prime minister is holding a number of bilateral meetings with foreign partners on the sidelines of the summit.
