MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – Experts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will come to Minsk for the annual consultations in October, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus Sergei Kalechits said on the sidelines of the high-level conference on the OECD financial education project for the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, BelTA has learned.
“Although there is a pause in the active phase of talks with the IMF, the talks continue. We expect a visit of IMF experts in October as part of the IV Article consultations. We have been considering technical areas, technical assistance,” Sergei Kalechits said.
The pause in the talks on the new IMF program was mentioned earlier by First Deputy Finance Minister of Belarus Maksim Yermolovich. “We can say that the talks on the new program with the IMF have paused for a while. As for our bilateral cooperation on the implementation of the program envisaging structural reforms in the financial sector, we continue our work here,” the first deputy minister said.
The Finance Ministry of Belarus in cooperation with the IMF is working out a plan of seminars aimed at developing solutions for planning and forecasting approaches and assessment of tax expenditure and fiscal risks, and the elaboration of proposals to change the tax legislation as well as the matters related to the state finance statistics.
The IMF mission last visited Belarus on 5-12 June. The IMF experts led by IMF mission chief for Belarus Peter Dohlman met with the government bodies to discuss the economic situation in the country and also other urgent cooperation matters, including, in particular, the preparations for the annual IV Article consultations scheduled for autumn 2017.
