MINSK, 21 September (BelTA) – The International Monetary Fund recommends that Belarus should expedite economy reforms, BelTA learned from Peter Dohlman, IMF Mission Chief for Belarus, on 21 September.
Peter Dohlman said: “It will help reduce vulnerability factors and pave the way to faster economic growth and bigger revenues in the country.” Apart from that, the IMF drew attention to creating a reliable and effective social security system to protect the most vulnerable population strata.
An IMF mission led by Peter Dohlman is expected to stay in Belarus on 19 September – 1 October. The purpose of the visit is to discuss economic reforms that an IMF credit program can back up. “Once the meetings are over, we will return to Washington to take part in annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank where we also intend to hold a meeting with the Belarusian delegation,” said Peter Dohlman.
An IMF mission visited Minsk on 21-30 June to evaluate the current economic policy and hold annual consultations with the authorities in line with Article IV of the IMF's Articles of Agreement.
