Great progress in EAEU-China talks over agreement on trade, economic cooperation

MOSCOW, 26 July (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and China have made considerable progress in the talks on the trade and economic cooperation agreement, BelTA learned from the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

Moscow played host to the fourth round of negotiations on the agreement. The sides discussed their positions on mutual obligations in such sections of the document as Horizontal and Legal Issues, Transparency, Market Protection Measure, Technical Barriers to Trade, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, Customs Cooperation, Intellectual Property, Competition, Public Procurement, Sectoral Cooperation, and Electronic Trading.

“We have largely harmonized the text of the agreement and established a constructive dialogue with our Chinese partners. The next round of talks will take place this autumn. We have reached a provisional agreement on holding it in Hangzhou, China in September,” Anton Kudasov, Director of the EEC Department of Trade Policy, head of the EEC delegation said following the negotiations.

The EAEU and China are in talks over the agreement on trade and economic cooperation in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council of 8 May 2015. The EAEU delegation at the negotiations comprises EEC members, experts, and public officials of the EAEU member states. The Chinese delegation includes representatives of the Ministry of Commerce which coordinates the negotiations, and also officials of other Chinese ministries and departments.
