Governors of Mogilev Oblast, Russia's Bryansk Oblast to work out clear-cut cooperation strategy

MOGILEV, 5 August (BelTA) – The governors of Mogilev Oblast and Bryansk Oblast have agreed to work out a clear-cut strategy of partnering relations. An official meeting of the two governors took place as part of the forum on interregional cooperation between Mogilev Oblast and Russia's Bryansk Oblast in the sphere of youth policy within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on 5 August, BelTA has learned.

The agreement on cooperation between Mogilev Oblast and Bryansk Oblast in trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural, and border affairs was signed in 2010 to mark the start of interaction between the two regions. At present the regions are busy implementing the 2015-2016 joint action plan.

According to Mogilev Oblast Governor Vladimir Domanevsky, trade turnover between the two regions has been falling in the last few years. The Governor mentioned objective reasons behind the phenomenon. First of all, it is necessary to analyze negative factors, make conclusions and sketch out promising cooperation options, he said.

Vladimir Domanevsky remarked that, considering the availability of the common market, it is necessary to focus efforts on creating decent competition for foreign manufacturers in various branches of the economy. In particular, it can be done by bolstering Belarusian-Russian manufacturing cooperation ties. It is necessary to put more efforts into setting up joint ventures, assembly enterprises, by utilizing each other's competitive advantages as well as capabilities of the Union State of Belarus and Russia as much as possible.

As an example of successful partnership the Mogilev Oblast Governor mentioned the Bryanskliftmash enterprise that had been established in association with the Belarusian lift manufacturer OAO Mogilevliftmash. The enterprise successfully cooperates with many Russian regions and can be actively involved in the Russian lift replacement program and can sell lifts for new housing.

Vladimir Domanevsky suggested considering the possibility of setting up joint ventures in agriculture, processing of food products. In turn, Bryansk Oblast Governor Alexander Bogomaz remarked that as far as animal husbandry and crop production are concerned, Russians can learn a lot from their Belarusian colleagues. Ways to work together in this area will surely be considered, he noted.

The Bryansk Oblast Governor underlined that the availability of an actively operating information field is vital for establishing contacts between Russian and Belarusian businessmen. Practicing a systemic approach towards cooperation and making sure that all the signed documents and commitments are honored should also be a high priority.

The sides agreed that representatives of companies and organizations of the two countries will meet soon during the eighth international investment forum Success Mill that will take place in Mogilev on 4-5 November 2016.
