Geographic feature status granted to streets in China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone

MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Streets located inside the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone have been granted the status of geographic features. The change was enacted by amendments to the law on naming geographic features, which were passed on 9 January 2018, the press service of the State Property Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

The law now stipulates that streets, squares, avenues, and other similar components of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone as well as elements of the same kind in populated localities will be treated as geographic features. The park administration will be able to name and rename them upon suggestions of the Belarusian-Chinese commission in charge of developing the park.

In line with the law the park administration will have to notify the State Property Committee about such decisions within ten days for the sake of registry purposes. Street elements in populated localities inside the borders of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone will be named or renamed taking into account the opinion of local residents.

The amendments are designed to bring the law on naming geographic features into compliance with Belarus president decree No.166 of 12 May 2017, which is designed to improve the special legal regime of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. The amendments are also supposed to enforce a universal approach to naming and renaming geographic features, their state registration, and usage.
