Eurasian Economic Union market seen as bridge between East and West

ASTANA, 31 May (BelTA-KAZINFORM) – By implementing large-scale infrastructure projects, Kazakhstan creates a strong platform for interregional cooperation, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev said when speaking at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana.

“The common market of the Eurasian Economic Union should become a bridge between the East and the West. Free movement of goods and services within our Union corresponds to the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative launched by China. The project is expected to embrace those areas of cooperation that can yield economic benefits and are of mutual interest to our countries,” President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

He noted that Kazakhstan is implementing the state program Nurly Zhol aimed at the construction and modernization of infrastructure objects. The program includes such projects as the highway Western Europe-Western China, the railway service Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Persian Gulf. In China, Kazakhstan operates a logistics terminal in the Pacific Ocean.

“A new seaport is being built on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Thus, by implementing large-scale infrastructure projects Kazakhstan creates a strong platform for interregional cooperation through these transportation arteries,” President Nursultan Nazarbayev added.
