Eurasian Economic Union develops confidently amid economic hardships

MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Union develops confidently despite unfavorable economic conditions. Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev made the statement during the expanded-participation session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Minsk on 27 October, BelTA has learned.

Dmitry Medvedev said: “Although we are always displeased with some aspects of development, I would like to emphasize that the Eurasian Economic Union confidently evolves after all. Some components may progress faster, some slower, but it is obvious that there is progress.”

“At present we prioritize the creation of the regulatory basis, the improvement of the legal base, and efforts to overcome lags in preparing secondary-level documents. We have to honor our mutual commitments regarding the formation of common markets. In the past we agreed that we are not going to steer away from this policy. Efforts should be channeled into this area,” believes the Russian head of government.

After signing the free trade agreement with Vietnam the Eurasian Economic Union started FTA talks with a number of countries, including China. The first round of talks with Israel is scheduled to take place in late 2016. Negotiations with Serbia and a number of other countries are about to start. “It is a lengthy and toilsome process, but in the end it is crucial to the development of the Eurasian Economic Union,” concluded Dmitry Medvedev.
